On September 25, Professor Vladislav Blatov took part in the All-Russian Conference "Crystal Chemistry of Minerals and Their Analogues: Energetic Aspects and Structural Diversity," dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Academician Vadim S. Urusov. The conference was organized by the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University, where Academician V. S. Urusov served as the head of the Department of Crystallography and Crystal Chemistry from 1983 to 2015.
Professor V. A. Blatov delivered an invited lecture, "Computer Crystal Chemical Analysis: Methods and Electronic Resources," in which he presented the latest developments of the SCTMS in the field of automated crystal chemical analysis. The report focused on the application of geometric-topological approaches implemented in the ToposPro software suite and the TopCryst online platform to the study, classification, and prediction of the structure of natural minerals.
"We have long-standing and close scientific ties with the Geological Faculty of Moscow State University," commented Professor V.A. Blatov. "Just in September, we hosted master’s student interns from this faculty; we outlined avenues for further collaboration. The world of mineral crystal structures is very rich and diverse, and the use of our approaches could significantly contribute to understanding the structural relationships between various minerals and the patterns of mineral formation. I have consulted with staff from the Geological Faculty and the Materials Science Faculty, and I hope our joint research in this area will begin soon."
