Tatiana Akhmetshina, SCTMS researcher, came back from the research trip to the University of Genoa (Italy). The goal of her visit was to conduct research and synthesis of intermetallic compounds jointly with Dr. Pavlo Solokha, Associate Professor of the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry, and his research team.
From April 26 until May 22, 2017 the research team performed synthesis and analysis of three compounds: the compounds of scandium with cobalt (Sc-Co), nickel (Sc-Ni) and palladium (Sc-Pd). The compound of scandium and palladium (~Sc4Pd) was successfully synthesized.
“A new crystalline phase was derived from Sc-Pd system. The crystalline phase was verified with the powder diffraction technique. As a result, we obtained a structure related to one that was predicted with ToposPro software package. Dr. Solokha will perform further structure refinement jointly with Prof. Davide M. Proserpio, SCTMS scientific adviser, in Milan.” - said Tatiana Akhmetshina.
During the research trip, a meeting with Prof. Davide M. Proserpio and Prof. Vladislav Blatov was held at the University of Milan. The scientists discussed further work on synthesis of the compound of scandium and palladium. Dr. Pavlo Solokha made some suggestions on ToposPro software package development.
Dr. Solokha will visit SCTMS in summer 2017 for lecturing on crystal chemistry of intermetallic compounds and conducting joint research.
