From May 30 to June 3, 2016 the 8th National Crystal Chemical Conference was held in Suzdal. Ten researchers of Samara Center for Theoretical Materials Science took part in the conference.
The scientific event was organized by the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Federal Agency for Scientific Organizations, Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Department of Chemistry and Material Sciences of the RAS and the Institute of Problems of Chemical Physics of the RAS.
The conference was aimed at discussing the current issues and prospects of crystal chemistry development in Russia. The attendees of the conference represented the leading Russian institutes and universities of Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk and Samara. The conference program included presentations, round tables, seminars and a poster session where the participants presented recent developments in crystal chemistry and discussed trends of its integration with other fields of science.
Representatives of Samara Center for Theoretical Materials Science delivered three reports. The director of SCTMS Prof. Vladislav Blatov reported on topological methods of analysis and modeling of crystalline substances. Eugeny Alexandrov explained the necessity of expert systems in crystal chemistry and reported on crystallochemical systematics of coordination compounds. Pavel Zolotarev presented the report “Identification of the cleavage planes in molecular crystals: topological and energetic aspects”. Andrey Goltsev participated in a poster session and won a prize for the best poster presentation "Taxonomy of rod-packed three-periodic coordination polymers".
