Artem Kabanov took part in the 52nd International School in Erice, Italy
18 June 2018

20180615-01Artem Kabanov, a senior research scientist of Samara Center for Theoretical Materials Science came back from the 52nd International School in Quantum Crystallography that was held in Erice (Italy) on June 1-10, 2018. Quantum crystallography is a field of science employing methods for obtaining crystallographic information and quantum mechanical theory.

The school was focused on the main achievements of this rapidly developing field of science. The program included lectures of leading experts and workshops on modern software. Directors of the course were Prof. D. Jayatilaka (University of Western Australia) and Prof. P. Macchi (University of Bern, Switzerland).

The main part of the school program was dedicated to methods of decoding and interpretation of diffraction data. Moreover, developers of widely known programs of quantum mechanical modeling CRYSTAL and Quantum Espresso gave a series of lectures. About one hundred participants attended the school, three of them including SCTMS delegate came from Russia.

“The lecture course was quite intensive, - Artem Kabanov comments. – I found the lectures and workshops on modeling methods most useful for our laboratory. The lectures on structure refinement methods were very interesting as well. Participation in the school enabled me to establish new scientific contacts that may lead to new joint works”.
